What is Powder Coating and Its Benefits?
Powder coating is a popular paint application process that provides a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials. It involves spraying a free-flowing powder onto a surface, resulting in a clean and polished look.
The Process of Powder Coating
- Cleaning: The surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove oil, grease, and oxides. It is then etched and rinsed to provide a suitable surface for the powder to adhere to.
- Application: The powder is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the surface. The application thickness varies based on the product’s intended use.
- Curing: The coated item is baked at around 400°F for 10 minutes. This process melts the powder, forming long chemical chains that give the coating its rigidity and durability. Once cured, the finish will not melt again, ensuring the product’s resilience in various environments.
